InfoBurst Revitalizes
BusinessObjects Deployment at Global Electronics Manufacturer - Case Study
|
Operating in a complex world wide
environment, a major electronics manufacturer faced a critical blocking factor
in the deployment of Business Objects to its regional organizations. InfoSol's
InfoBurst allowed for the continued growth and value return on the
manufacturer's Enterprise Data Warehouse.
The company's world wide data center, located in Europe, hosted the Enterprise
Data Warehouse. Business Objects Web Intelligence and Full Client products were
used as the principal access tools. Logon times exceeded 20 minutes for users
in regional offices of North America with equally as long durations to schedule
a single report refresh.
Utilizing InfoBurst, the company was able to grow its scheduling of regional
reports from less than 50 to over 900. InfoBurst additionally allowed for the
creation of parameterized documents that were re-used to generate the same
report but with different filters. This furthered the return on investment in
Business Objects. InfoBurst provided an independent local scheduling and
distribution agent that integrated with the corporate secured Data Warehouse.

InfoBurst enabled multiple reports per burst with single refresh
report bursting, so that each report could be logically split, and the
different parts sent to different destinations in different formats.
The electronics manufacturer partnered early with InfoSol to
ensure critical features were available such as multi-server refresh agents
that allowed for load sharing as well as failover of services in case of a
hardware failure. Additional productivity features that allowed for partial
burst re-runs as well as distribution templates were also provided via this
partnership.
The successful implementation of InfoBurst was later extended from the Americas
region to Europe leveraging the existing Americas IT support staff. Through a
cooperative arrangement, Europe provided the software licensing and America
provided the hardware for a second server and administration of the full
environment.
"InfoSol's InfoBurst has provided a robust reporting environment for Business
Objects and the Enterprise Data Warehouse that will provide exceptional value
to the corporation for years to come," commented the I.T. manager responsible
for the InfoBurst deployment.

BO XIR2 Migration
Assessment Studies in Demand
|
As more customers start to plan their migrations to
BusinessObjects XIR2, many are not sure of what is involved or how much time,
effort, and cost it will take.
Many customers are not aware of the full impact of moving to a
completely new architecture and whether they should move or change their
security model. In addition, they are unsure of which reports, if any, will
need to be modified and if they should convert full client reports to Web
Intelligence or leave them to run as Desktop Intelligence. New requirements for
hardware resources and architecture, training needs, additional products and
functionality are all concerns too.
In order to address these issues, InfoSol offers a tailored XIR2
Migration Assessment Study service, where we look at your existing
BusinessObjects environment and your future requirements and identify both
issues and choices along with making best practice recommendations on how to
proceed. The service is tailored for each individual customer and can last from
2 to 15 days depending on the extent of your implementation and needs.
Typically, most services are about 5 days in duration.
By performing a Migration Assessment Study, you are able to plan
your migration better and have a better understanding of the time, effort, and
cost involved.
In addition to XIR2 Migration Assessment Studies, InfoSol offers
a complete set of migration services. InfoSol also provides BusinessObjects
audit services, so that you can better understand which universes, objects,
reports, and users are active and which are not.

Ask the Expert - Your
Business Intelligence Questions Answered
|
QUESTION:
How can I Limit a Top 3 Ranking to only 3 Rows? Additionally, is it
possible to Custom Sort a Top 3 Ranking?
ANSWER:
When applying a ranking, to a dimension in a block, for only the
top/bottom x results of a measure for that dimension, you sometimes get more
rows than your requested x value. This is because a ranking considers same
values to be the same rank. When you have duplicate measure results, then,
there are "extra" rows.
For example, when querying Invoice Date and Number of
Guests in the Beach universe (Island Resorts Marketing), you have
12 guests on two different days (as well as 11 guests on two different days).
