Optimizing Data Sources for Crystal Xcelsius using InfoBurst XDS

As more users acquire and start to deploy amazing interactive dashboards with Xcelsius, the need and demand for an efficient way to automatically refresh and share these dashboards with large numbers of users is increasing.

To meet this demand, InfoSol has developed a new functionality as part of its flagship InfoBurst solution. The new component, called InfoBurst XDS, is designed totally around the needs of Xcelsius dashboard developers. It enables you to use a BusinessObjects report (6.x, XI R2 Desktop Intelligence or Web Intelligence) as a data source or to create direct queries on any database. InfoBurst XDS then maps the data ranges from the report queries in the Xcelsius XML Data Button. In addition, InfoBurst XDS offers a set of powerful data formatting options, such as Cross Tab and Data Selector to precisely generate data ranges that require little or no additional formulas or scripting.

The best part of all is that the data for the dashboard can now be scheduled using the powerful time and event driven scheduling features of InfoBurst with the resulting XML data cached and stored on the InfoBurst server. The Xcelsius dashboard itself will point to the http:// address on the InfoBurst server to get the latest XML for the dashboard. This results in dynamically or manually (press of a button on the dashboard) refreshed dashboards for large numbers of users with excellent performance.

InfoSol is providing InfoBurst XDS as an included component of InfoBurst Enterprise Edition or as a bundled solution with Crystal Xcelsius Workgroup Edition under the name of Distributed Dashboards.

QUESTION:
Can I create Alerters in WebIntelligence 6.1?

ANSWER:
Alerters are available in v6.5, however, if using the earlier version, you might find the following techtip useful.

Alerters are used in the full client tool to apply conditional formatting. Although Alerters are not available in WebIntelligence as a toolbar button and interface, like they are in the full client, it is possible to produce a similar result with the if() function and the "Read as HTML" cell property.

For example, if you want revenue that is greater than 6000 to appear in italics, and you want revenue less than or equal to 6000 to appear in bold type, you must first set the formula using the if() function as follows.

=If ([Revenue]>6000;"<i>"+[Revenue]+"</i>";"<strong>"+[Revenue]+"</strong>")
