Reducing the Time and Cost of Your Migration to XI R2

As more BusinessObjects customers start their planning and execution of migrating to XI R2, many are finding it difficult to get their arms around exactly what needs to be migrated. It is not unusual to find many established BusinessObjects environments with thousands or even tens of thousands of BusinessObjects reports. Most of these are often personal documents rather than standardized corporate documents. The issue is, do they all need to be migrated, tested, and validated. If they do, this could add substantial time and cost to the migration project.

One very effective method to address this issue is to perform an audit of which reports are actually being used and how frequently. By using a monitoring tool called Enterprise Manager, it is possible to collect and analyze all BusinessObjects user, report, and universe activity over a period of time to quickly see which reports are being used and which are not. The same applies for usage of universes, objects, and even users themselves. Performing an audit with Enterprise Manager for a 30 to 60 day period will enable most sites to determine what is really being used, and therefore, what needs to be migrated and validated.

Enterprise Manager is available both to purchase and to rent. InfoSol also offers both an on-site and a remote service to perform the audit and analysis for you using Enterprise Manager.

InfoSol Offers Effective Evaluations of Distributed Reporting

It is often difficult to effectively evaluate a new product or solution that you are not familiar with and have never used before. Seeing a demonstration and working through the user guide are not the same as having an expert help you install, configure, and make it operate with your users and reports in your environment.

Report scheduling with intelligent bursting and distribution has become an integral part of many successful business intelligence deployments today. For BusinessObjects, Web Intelligence, Crystal, and Microsoft Reporting Services reports, the best solution available is InfoBurst.

As well as automated scheduling, distribution in different formats, and a wealth of delivery mechanisms, InfoBurst offers intelligent one refresh multiple destination report bursting for all Business Objects report types. It also offers intelligent scheduling, parameterization and publishing based on the results of a SQL query.

The depth of functionality and capabilities are so vast that it is difficult to evaluate it effectively without some knowledge transfer and assistance.

To address this issue, InfoSol is now offering a special 2-day on-site InfoBurst Knowledge Transfer service where an InfoBurst specialist will install, configure, and provide knowledge transfer on the product to help you both effectively evaluate it and use it. The cost of the service will be just $1,950 and this entire amount will be deducted from the price of the product if you decide to purchase it at the end of the evaluation period. Not only does this provide you with effective set-up and training for free, but it also minimizes the requirement for any further InfoBurst training at the end of the evaluation.

This new InfoBurst Start-Up Service is immediately available. For more information contact your InfoSol Account Manager or e-mail InfoSol.

Ask the Expert - Your Business Intelligence Questions Answered

QUESTION:
How can I create Line Number within Sections?

ANSWER:
If you save a sectioned report as HTML and choose the "section by section" option, the sections are saved in separate HTML pages numbered from 0 (i.e. 0.htm, 1.htm, etc.).

In wanting to link to these sectioned pages from another sectioned page, you need a way to correspond the link value to the number of the page. Assuming the sort of the values in the linking page is the same as the sort of the sections you wish to link to, this would be the linenumber() function corrected to start at 0.
