Distributed Xcelsius Dashboards Taking Off

December was a big month for InfoSol in terms of solutions as more companies purchased the powerful combination of the Xcelsius dashboards and InfoBurst distribution products than ever before.

2007 Education Schedule Now Available

The InfoSol BusinessObjects Public Training schedule, through to July 1, 2007, is published and available.

More classes for Crystal Reports, Web Intelligence, Xcelsius, and Data Integrator have been added to meet the increasing demand for these topics.

InfoSol will also continue to offer the two BusinessObjects XI R2 Administration courses (SA210R2 and SA310R2) every month to accommodate the surge of BusinessObjects customers migrating to XI R2.

Traditionally, InfoSol's public training classes fill up quickly for the months of January through March, so it is advisable to book well in advance to secure a seat.

Additional Advanced Training Added to IBIS 2007 - Registration Now Available!

As the 2007 InfoSol Business Intelligence Seminar (IBIS) shapes up, another advanced training track has been added. The new track, "Crystal Reports Advanced," will be another hands-on track that includes the full BusinessObjects certified "Crystal Reports: Report Design III" course in addition to 1.5 days of unique Crystal Advanced Workshops. These hands-on workshops will cover the following topics:

• Connecting to Non-Conventional Data Sources
• Examining Join Types
• Security for Business Views and the Joy of Row Level Security
• Creating Custom Functions from Scratch
• Troubleshooting Common Report Issues
• Improving Report Performance

IBIS 2007 will now boast SIX hands-on tracks and two workshop seminars.

There are tracks for beginner and advanced report developers for both Crystal and Web Intelligence, in addition to Data Integrator, Xcelsius/InfoBurst, and Optimizing the XI R2 Environment. There is also a special Introduction to Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing and BusinessObjects for Managers and non-IT personnel.

QUESTION:
How can I avoid having to create different universes for different drill paths (hierarchies) for the same object set? Can I limit a user or group to stop drilling at a specific object level?

ANSWER:
For different reports, you may wish to offer different drill paths than are set in the universe hierarchies. This can be specified using the Custom scope option. In the following picture, the universe hierarchy specifies a Time hierarchy from Year to Quarter to Month to Week to Holiday. If you wish the user to avoid the Month drill point, then you may remove that object from the list of objects as defined in the Scope of Analysis pane. Now, for this report only, the drill will be from Year to Quarter to Week to Holiday (Note: Holiday is available as part of the defined universe hierarchy on a drill through.more on this next). The only limitation for customizing the drill path is that you must only choose dimensions from within the same class.
