  • InfoSol Makes Inc 5000 List

InfoSol was recently recognized by Inc.com as one of the 5000 fastest growing private companies in America.  “These companies are the elite--a mere sliver of the seven million or so companies in the U.S. that have employees.” reported Inc.com

With 99% growth between the years 2003 and 2006, InfoSol also ranked 86th in the top 100 fastest growing companies in Phoenix, Mesa and Scottsdale, Arizona.

“The last few years have been an exciting time for InfoSol, both in terms of growth and achievements” said InfoSol’s President and CEO Paul Grill.  “2007 marks the 10 year anniversary of InfoSol Inc. and this recognition by Inc.com is only the start of great things to come.”

InfoSol Sponsoring Business Objects Insight Americas and Asia Pacific & Japan Conferences

Business Objects will be holding its major annual user conference for the Americas this year in Orlando, Florida from October 15-18 and a separate user conference for its Asia Pacific & Japan customers in Sydney, Australia from October 28-30. InfoSol will be sponsoring both conferences to showcase its latest solutions.

At the Insight Americas in Orlando, InfoSol will have two booths in the Exhibit area, one showcasing the latest in report and dashboard distribution with InfoBurst and InfoBurst-XDS and the other highlighting version control and usage auditing with Version Manager and Enterprise Manager.

At Insight in Australia, InfoSol will also be exhibiting and showcasing its BusinessObjects add-on solutions. Through its Australian solutions partner, eVolition, InfoSol saw its first sales of both InfoBurst and Version Manager in Australia earlier this year.

InfoSol’s newest solution partner, Antivia, will also be exhibiting at both conferences and showcasing its customizable hierarchal management solution, Scenario, available through InfoSol in North America.

If you are planning on attending either Insight conference, be sure to stop by the InfoSol booth and enter the drawing for an i-pod.

Integrated Distributed BI Applications - The Next Wave?

As business intelligence vendors scramble to define and develop the next generation of BI solutions – the so-called BI 2.0 – they are branching out in all directions in the hope of finding that golden nugget that leads them to that elusive gold mine. Will it be in delivering BI content to hand-held devices? Will it be in the ability to analyze unstructured data content? Will it be in creating community user-centric based BI solutions?

While these vendors brainstorm these options and attempt to evolve BI to the next level, most businesses and communities are still trying to understand how best to utilize and integrate BI in their environments. The business world has always been slow to adopt new technology. The COBOL language is 3 years away from celebrating its 50th anniversary and 70% of the world’s business applications still run on COBOL!
BI is a mere youngster in comparison.

If BI is to become pervasive in business and the world today, it will be through integration with what is already in place. The most popular usage of BI tools today is for standardized and ad-hoc reporting against production or extracted production (Data Warehouses or Data Marts) application databases. It has become the reporting solution for business applications.

Dashboards have become a new way to visualize key metrics and summary information along with providing the added functionality of “What if?” scenarios to extrapolate that data and predict trends. They will shortly become as popular as the BI reporting solutions.

Distribution and publishing of these reports and dashboards has become critical to the extensive usage and benefit, and therefore success, of BI today. By delivering these reports and dashboards in commodity formats (PDF, Excel, HTML) to commodity destinations (Web Server, Email, PDA, Network Share, Corporate Portal) securely and reliably, the BI solution becomes effective.

Now, if you could seamlessly integrate the standardized and ad-hoc reporting, the dashboarding and the distribution and publishing with your production applications, you may be getting close to making BI pervasive within your organization.

InfoSol recently did this with our own Call Management System. Account Managers now automatically receive an e-mail each week with an embedded icon that when they click on this it brings up a variety of dashboards and reports that show them all the calls generated and closed by just their individual clients. They can drill down to an individual client and even an individual call and then, by clicking on the call, they can be seamlessly linked to the Call Management System and see the details and history of that call real-time. This is an Integrated Distributed BI Application and it may just be the next wave of BI solutions to come.

Ask the Expert - Your Business Intelligence Questions Answered

    BusinessObjects Q&A

    QUESTION:
How can I apply a hidden sort in Web Intelligence?

    ANSWER:
Use the formula bar in the Alerter options.

Although hidden sorts are not directly supported with Web Intelligence in XIR2, they are still possible using the alerter formula bar as a work-around. Although formatting can be used to create a sort on a table, it is not very elegant. Clever formatting is also not an option on a chart.

The elegant method is to exchange one object for another using an alerter.

    Crystal Reports Q&A

    QUESTION:
How can I change my grid size from measuring in inches to centimeters?

    ANSWER:
Change your overall Regional and Language Options in the Control Panel.

When working on reports that contain many objects in one section, it is very helpful to turn on the grid in Crystal.

File>Options>Layout (tab)>Design View check the Grid checkbox.
