Looking Forward to Birthday Parties and IBIS

When I was a kid, I always looked forward to my birthday because that was the one day of the year I was allowed to invite friends to my grandparents’ house where I lived and we could both play and interact outside of school.

We immersed ourselves in games like “pass the parcel,” “musical chairs”, “musical statues” and “blind man’s bluff”. We talked and ate together, and I loved the exciting conversations we had about everything and anything. I was always sad when it was over but would console myself by starting to count the days till the next birthday!

IBIS, the annual everything BusinessObjects conference, feels the same way for me. I am always excited to see friends, old and new, show up and immerse ourselves in our common passions for Business Intelligence and BusinessObjects. My favorite part is always the conversations over a meal or in sessions, exhibits or corridors. So much great information gets exchanged, and the combination of being both face-to-face and away from the office in a relaxed environment inspires ideas.

This year’s IBIS, in just a couple of weeks, promises to be a gem. With sessions and hands-on for both the new BI 2025 release and a sneak preview of the BI 2027 release from SAP Labs in Paris, lots of BusinessObjects new features and best practice sessions, customer case studies on using AI with BusinessObjects, it will be hard to choose between the three tracks.

The Tuesday keynote from Santi Becerra, the legend who developed Xcelsius and is now writing AI applications for safer sailing, looks like a cracker with the title “Is AI the End of BI as we know it?”

Then there are all the events which remind me of my old birthday party games. We have the Dashboard Awards, the Squirrel Hackathon, The BusinessObjects Hall of Fame and on Tuesday night a very special performance of Native American Hoop Dancing from the talented Jensen family.

This year’s IBIS also includes 2 days of free virtual hands-on training with courses in:

This is perfect for everyone looking to move to the new BI 2025 release next year.

At IBIS each year, the InfoSol team works really hard and strives to earn the feedback on the survey that “This was the best IBIS Ever.” #BestIBISEver

I have been attending IBIS’s for more than 25 years, and I never ceased to be amazed at how quickly they happen. One moment , I am meeting everyone at the Welcome reception on Sunday evening and the next, I am saying goodbye and it’s Wednesday evening.

I guess they are like my birthday parties as a kid and that’s why I always feel sad when they are over. However, I know as soon as IBIS 2026 is over, I’ll start counting the days to IBIS 2027.
