For Healthcare organizations, the ability to monitor Key Performance Indicators in a timely manner, discover any issues and react quickly is critically important. The setting for this dashboard is the ER and ICU departments at Partner Healthcare, spanning four clinics. The hospital administrator uses the dynamic, interactive features of this dashboard to monitor External Quality Indicators, Patient Survey and Incidents. Additionally, it allows filters to be applied by Facility and Department if necessary.
Launching the dashboard provides a summary for all clinics and departments. There are three navigation options for each facility (External Quality Indicators, Patient Survey and Incidents). Additionally, the dashboard you to filter by Facility and Department if necessary.
The red indicator against Cholecystectomy in the external quality indicators scorecard is an immediate alert. Clicking on the Cholecystectomy row filters the facility bar chart on the bottom left of the screen. The bar chart shows that Berlin has exceeded the goal for that KPI in the time period being reviewed.
To further determine if the issue is with the ICU or ER department within the Berlin facility, the dashboard can be filtered first for the Berlin Facility, then by both the ICU and ER data. Based on this, it is clear that the issue lies with the Berlin ICU and follow-up action can be taken.
To analyze Patient Survey data, set the dashboard filters to display data for all facilities and departments then click on the Patient Survey tab on the menu bar. From here the Patient Survey KPI measures for all facilities and departments can be reviewed to see if any of the indicators are red.
Filtering for the Riverside facility ER department shows that the KPI indicators are red for Nurses Always Communicated Well and Doctors Always Communicated Well. Clicking on these KPIs in the scorecard updates the Bar and Line charts on the bottom of the screen. Reviewing the 12-month Trend chart at the bottom right of the dashboard for each of these measures indicates that the scores have dropped significantly during the past two months (Nov. and Dec.).
Click the Incidents tab in the menu bar to establish whether the low scores led to issues in Riverside ER. The resulting data shows that there are problems at Riverside ER. The Incidents of Patient Falls and Wound Healing Disorders, shown as a percentage, are highlighted in red.
The Clinical Pathway Compliance chart at the bottom left of the dashboard allows you to include/omit data in the chart by checking/unchecking the relevant checkboxes. Treatment and Care, and Care Wait Time have the highest number of complaints. This can be interpreted as an indication that there is good customer service when dealing with patients, but staff may not always be clear when giving instructions to patients. The chart also shows that complaints increased significantly over the last 2 months which aligns with the KPI scores for this facility.
Based on this information, the hospital administrator can make a decision on how best to follow up with relevant individuals at the hospital with a view to resolving the issues.
